Stendhal online

By Tracy

The Guardian reports that Grenoble's Stendhal University and public library have created a website that carries Stendhal's original manuscripts (500 pages up so far!), which you can inspect alongside transcripts (also annotated for clarity and background).

It's an amazing experience, and it's at http://www.manuscrits-de-stendhal.org/

how exciting. i sometimes dream of finding rare material on-line. our frail bequest to an unknown future? In the meantime, a pot of gold.

Thank you both!

OTGE, nice to meet you.

Vek: yes, it's very moving (to me!) to look at the manuscripts, right down to the exuberantly inconsistent spelling. And there are some of Stendhal's poems on there, which I had never seen before even in print.

Tracy.
